You need a minimum of 300 DPI which stands for dots per inch

Steve Jobs

Who is Steve Jobs?

Steve Jobs is the man who created the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. He is the Apple co-executive and he was the main founder and creator of all of the important Apple products. He was the man who changed technology.

What company was he CEO for many years?

He was the CEO for Apple. He also worked for Pixar Animation and Walt Disney Company.

What did he do for the computer industry? 

He made computers smarter than anyone thought was possible. Computers can do much more than anyone ever thought that they would be able to do.

How did this man impact the graphic design industry?

He made devices that could make the process of making the graphics easier. By making the Mac, there was more applications and options to do things that could make the graphics better.

Review Week 8

Why must designers pay close attention to how color is utilized within a composition?Designers must pay close attention to how color is utilized in a composition because some colors look really good together, and some colors don't work well together. This way the design can look as good as it possibly can without having the wrong feeling or thought to them

Why is the color wheel an important tool for graphic designers?It is important to have a color wheel because then the graphic designers can figure out which colors can look really good together and which ones can't. Graphic designers always use colors, so they have to make sure that when they do it's the right ones.

Find an example of neutral colors utilized within a design (hint: google poster design). Near the sample, discuss why you feel the designer included neutral colors within the composition.

 

 This design shows neutral colors. I think that the designer used neutral colors to show that this is a serious piece of design and it's not just showing fun and happy themes. I really like this design because of how the neutral colors are placed around.

Briefly describe how we "see" the color of an object.
You can see the color of an object when the color bounces back at us from our eyes. The color is not actually there, but it is how our eyes can interpret things and how the reflections come to them.

Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allow us to see color?

Visible light is what causes us to see colors

Describe white light?
Equal parts of all colors in visible spectrum.

How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
We see colors when they absorb or reflect colors in the visible spectrum.

What is a glass prism?
Transparent triangular object that breaks white light into all of the colors of the visible light spectrum.

What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

Describe hue?
The color itself. Each hue is a different reflected wavelength of light.

When does white light occur?
All wavelengths are reflected back to your eye.

When does black light occur?  

No light is reflected back to your eye.

How color is perceived depends on what?

Depends on the type of light that it is seen with. Incandescent, fluorescent, and natural sunlight.

What is a color wheel?
Visual tool that shows the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

What are primary colors? Name them?
Red, blue, and yellow. When two of these colors are mixed together, they create a secondary color.

What are secondary colors? Name them?
Orange, green, and violet. When primary and secondary are mixed they make a tertiary color.

What are tertiary colors? Name them?
Named by the colors used to create them. Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet.

What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
Don't show up on the color wheel. Colors of very low saturation. Black, gray, white, and brown. 

Can be created by mixing complementary colors.

How can a neutral color help a design? 

Help put the focus on other colors and tone down some colors.

What are complementary colors? Name them?
Colors that are positioned opposite of each other on the color wheel. Red and green, orange and blue, yellow and violet.

What is color value?
Lightness or darkness of a hue or color.

What is a shade?
When you add black to a hue producing a low value color.

What is a tint?
When you add white to a hue producing a high value color.

What is saturation/intensity?
Brightness of a color.

What happens when you mix complementary colors together?
You produce a dull tone.

Describe color harmony?
A pleasing arrangement of parts. Helps to create visual interest and sense of order.

What is a color scheme?
Harmonious color combinations. Used to create style and appeal.

Describe a monochromatic color scheme? 
Uses tints and shades (value) of one color. Clean and elegant. Soothing and go well together. Easy on the eyes.

Describe an analogous color scheme?
Uses three colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. (Next to each other). One color is used as the dominant color and the other is used to enrich the scheme. Found in nature and pleasing to the eye. Bright and cheery affect. One hue is the main color.

Describe a complementary color scheme?
Made of two colors opposite of each other on the color wheel. Will draw a lot of attention. Works best in situations where you need high-contrast compositions. Nature.

Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
Uses three colors and the 2 colors adjacent to its complementary. Will draw attention but without the tension of complimentary scheme.

Describe a triadic color scheme?
Uses three colors equally spaced around the color wheel. Offers a strong visual balance.

What colors are considered to be warm colors?
Yellows, oranges, reds. Colors found in the sun.

Describe a warm color scheme?
Strong and welcoming. Expresses aggression, excitement, and danger. Will overpower other colors in a design.

What colors are considered to be cool colors?
Greens, blues, and violets.

Describe a cool color scheme?
Gives an impression of calm and doesn't overpower other colors. Give illusion of depth.

Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?
Think about how colors are perceived. Meaning of color impacts all visual communications. Important to understand how color is used in our culture. Convey the right tone or message and revoke he desired response.

Review Week 6

What is the pen tool used for?
The pen tool is used to create vector graphics using Illustrator.

How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool, pen+, pen-, and convert too.

To manipulate a path in illustrator, you have to hold down the shift key as you drag the line. This makes the line curve and be more nice looking. It also helps if you drag the line longer so that it stays more curvy.

How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?

You can use this palette when you are tracing an image. When you are done tracing it, you can delete the back image so that the part you were tracing would show up on the back.

How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?

To create a clipping mask in Illustrator, you have to use the shape tool and go to the square one. Then, you can take it and choose which part you want to take out. Then, go to the drop down arrow and choose clipping tool and it will take the part in the square and take the other parts away, so that you can only see the selected part.

Review Week 5

This design is an example of shape. It shows a lot of great textures and how they all come together as one shape. It is a very interesting shape that is very complex and all together fun to look at. The shape and colors represent happiness and fun. The shapes and colors overlapping each other enhance the graphic because it shows lots of design elements.

This design represents line because of its variety of line types and what it is trying to represent. The curved and circular lines are showing confusion and maybe even anger. The colors represent more of a happy thought though. The lines are very complex and abstract so there can be a lot of meanings to this design.

This design is showing texture because of the rugged feel from the looks of the picture. It shows the picture from an angle that represents texture, since it is at a left angle. The bars are also overlapping which shows that the design is not flat, and that it has an interesting texture.

This design shows lots of space, because of the different shapes and line colors. It shows the different space between the different line textures. The colors are representing peace. Space is important because it shows nice difference between the colors and the shapes.

This design shows value because of the contrast of black and white. The background is black and the words and the picture is white so that it can show the contrast from the two colors. Value is used mostly to show the contrast between black and white to show something.

Review Week 4

Why/how can icons be used to communicate?

Icons can be used to communicate by sending visual messages. Instead of using words, the images are used for showing visual images, and let's the person viewing it make their own thoughts about what it should mean.

Via the internet, find 2 examples of common icons that clearly communicate their message. Post both in this entry.

 This icon is the icon for Facebook. It is one icon that is easily noticed. Even if you don't have a Facebook, almost everyone knows what this icon stands for. 

 This is the icon for restrooms. It is also very common, since restrooms are almost everywhere. It is really helpful because then restrooms are much easier to locate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

What is the difference between copyright and public domain?

Copyright- a set of rights that the person who created the thing says that no one else can use the same idea or design without special permissions. 

Public Domain- when something is not subject to a copyright.

How can you avoid plagiarism in this class? In other classes?

You can avoid plagiarism by not looking at other people's work. If you do happen to take a glance at someone else's work, you should not copy exactly what they did or anything that would be to similar to what they did. In any other classes, just don't look at other people's papers, especially during tests or quizzes.
